A Blind Era

blind era

I will start with a recent incident of my village in MP. An ABVP leader and his brother attacked a local shopkeeper in his own shop. Shopkeeper and his 2 sons reacted in self defense. In this scuffle the shop got damaged badly and ABVP leader and his brother got injury in head. It became a police case. When everybody was of the opinion that the case will go against the brothers who attacked the shopkeeper first, the police did exactly the opposite. It charged the shopkeeper and his sons with section 307 and locked them up. Reason is well understood.

This is a small example from a small place. Now, you can imagine the things which would have been happening on a biger level and what exactly is happening in JNU. Nobody is in favor of the people who shouted anti-India slogans there but the behavior of police and government is shameful. It clearly shows their malicious intentions. Real culprits are still at large and false evidences are being produced against those who are the target of government. The government points out to the target and a mad crowd with their half baked notions of country, culture and history goes behind it. These kinds of things are happening more frequently and happening everywhere. People, who are having their logic and conscience in place, are speaking out openly but the fact which is extremely scary is that the ears which are supposed to listen to these voices are dumb. A healthy society is that which has equal space for opposition too, where people listen to the opposition, think about the opinion and then do whatever is good for the society. Do you see any such thing happening in this country?

So much is happening which is going to prove insidiously dangerous if avoided. We are living in such a horrifying age where intellect, conscience, knowledge, history, thought etc are being rejected. See the impact of this ostracism; an artist and especially a writer or poet always raises his voice against the odds of society but this is a rare time when poets are writing fanatic poems, the words of writers are poisonous against sections, communities or casts. Illiterates are dictating the education. There is noise everywhere; peace has been termed as tomfoolery.

We are the only people in this world who make a mockery of everything which comes to our hand whether it is a technique or a political system. We use technique to spread hatred and what we have done with the democracy is clearly visible. Nehru gave emphasis in one of his speech that in a democracy opposition is equally important as the government and he always valued the opposition. It is said that he himself used to write letters criticizing his own government. This is the level of thought we need and when it comes to the country we need a leader who is thoughtful than a person who collects the crowd with his hues and cries. The country is in the hands of jugglers now and public is behaving like obedient assistant to him. How can this public get anything but the lashes? Government and opposition are working as two enemy clans who can go to any extent against each other. Together, both has spread such haze that people have become disillusioned, it has become difficult to decide what is right and what is wrong, who did what? Government has police, law, administration at its service but it is ruling with the help of goons and opposition is beating its chest about unnecessary issues. Both are crossing all the limits of descent to denigrate each other. Public has become a mere crowd who doesn’t have a face or heart or brain. People are behaving like machines. Once programmed, nothing can affect them. I have one such friend who starts throwing fits of patriotism every time you talk to him. It is extremely sad that such people have started occupying the great people of old times and defining them according to their own ideology whereas there is no similarity in the thought processes. The same friend I mentioned above used to bring Bhagat Singh in every other conversation, fed up I asked him ‘how much do you know about Bhagat Singh’? He could tell only a single line that “Bhagat Singh was against Gandhi and Gandhi ruined him” there is no question of “why” with him because he didn’t know anything. I sent him Bhagat Singh’s article “why am I an atheist” and he simply put it aside. These people are not at all interested in knowledge or facts; they just love shouting the slogans on the basis of whatever little they have heard from unreliable sources. They don’t want to know more than they already know; they don’t want to understand more than they already understand. It seems that someone has put a lock to their brains and has thrown away the keys. Not only the brains but their hearts too melt for the things they are programmed for otherwise, they don’t give a damn. Most scary fact is that these people are not sparing anything, they are trying to alter the text books, rewriting the history and defining great leaders of past as par their ideology and in turn creating an impression as if they were enemies.

I would say this is the failure of our education system. It has been failed miserably in creating responsible citizens who has the conscience and the ability to think. Educational institutes are acting like factories which are producing identical products with closed caps. Someone has poured poison into the roots and this tree is dying. Those few, who are thoughtful, are exceptions who have saved their abilities despite of all the education, society, religions etc and these people are the ones who keep the country going. The sad part is, this section is always vexed. Power has always been selfish and corrupt and these few people are those who makes it do what it should do but for that too there should be some people from this section in the power. In current scenario it seems that power has deliberately chosen only the machines for its work. No discussion, no hearing, no thinking, one sided decisions are being taken and a crowd is left on the streets to spread the nuisance.

Patriotism has become like peanuts, everybody is chewing it. Sentiments are lying on the crossroads and being hurt on every little twitch. What kind of people are these around us who could not even become human properly? Since the time the new government has come in power a pattern is noticeable which implies that these people are pernicious for the future of this country. Every institution which is based on free thinking is being captured and puppets are being placed in control there. Institutes related to education, literature and art are witnessing this disturbance. incompetent people are being awarded for their political alignment and devotion for a leader. One big example of this is appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the director of FTII. It is obvious for the students to be worried. Think about a scenario, you appoint a tutor for your child and the tutor doesn’t know anything about the subject he is going to teach, what will you do? It gives some hope that the students are aware and they are protesting. This protest is exactly what worries them a lot, they want the students who can just obey, who cannot think or decide anything on their own; then only they can remain in power and do what they want to do.

They want the power so they are not leaving any stone unturned but as a common man what do’ we’ want? We are the public…we can understand the basic necessities of life or we can’t? We are being fooled on single issue since hundreds of years just like the kids who get scared every time you tell them “Oh my God,see the lion behind you”. You are the kid who is being fooled since 1000 years with the imaginary lion. On the name of religion, caste, country, patriotism…it is happening again and again. This country is trapped in a loop. Every generation spends its life in same fashion. When will we understand? When will we live for the causes ahead of our last generation? They are misleading us on the name of patriotism and it’s a bitter truth that we like such easy escapes. We are lazy, if we can be proved patriotic by just shouting the slogans or by just abusing someone then it’s a great deal. We are masters at gossiping and decide the patriotism on the basis of the words one speaks. If you love your country then it should be visible in your life, in your work, in everything you do in your daily routine, not just in the slogans. Introspect yourselves, how worried are you for the smallest thing of your country? Do you feel bad when you see someone spreading the litter around? Do you keep your surroundings clean? Do you use the resources of country like electricity, water etc responsibly? And do you feel worried if others are misusing them? Have you ever done anything which was purely for the betterment of society or the country though there was a personal loss to you? Usually people do the good only if it is a by product of some deal which is profitable for them.

I would like to quote one more example from my village only. A ration shop owner was caught by police because he was making forged oil. Police seized his machines, labels and the things he was using to do so. The case got closed as soon as it was raised. Today, he is a big businessman and a leader of the party in power. If you were worried for your country, you would have boycotted him on the same day and he would have to hide his face instead of sitting on the stage in public gatherings and getting space in political banners. Refrain from such shallow patriotism. Believe it or not but the majority of the population of this country will fail on this measure and will be proved traitor because everybody is ditching the country on his own level.

Decease can be cured only when you accept that it is there on the first place. You have an ulcer on your leg, you are not able to walk properly and if someone points it out you break his head. This is what, is happening in this country. No one is interested in the deceases and hence no one is doing anything to cure them. We are living in a dream. We will be considered as mature only when we will learn to take the criticism positively otherwise keep shouting the slogans, be a part of this mad crowd; one day it would be your turn and you will be helpless. This crowd will still be there to shout the slogans, to laugh on you and to break your skull. Take a stand, study the culture and history, and make your beliefs on the basis of facts not on doughy sentiments. It’s your choice; you make your country or destroy it.

Jai Hind!
